As our parish mission states, we strive to truly be a parish open to all, grounded in prayer, and a messenger of the Gospel. In order to realize that mission, we need all our members of the parish to be living authentic Catholic lives! This means living in a close relationship with Christ and listening to His call to mission in our lives.
When we think about a parish, we usually think about going to get something, whether that is Jesus in the Eucharist, the Mass, the Sacraments, or Community and Formation. But really we come to the Church of the Holy Trinity to receive Love, the Love of God through the Sacraments, and the love of each other through community.
Our parish is blessed with a wonderful pastor, generous deacons, great staff and many volunteers who give themselves in various ministries so that YOU and your families may receive formation, prayer, and community.
Along with the many opportunities to receive God's Love through the Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist and Reconciliation, our parish also works to provide various other opportunities to encounter God and each other.
But Love only grows when love is shared. While we must continue coming to the parish to receive, we should also ask ourselves, where are we sharing the love we have received?
Psalm 117:12 says: "How can I repay the Lord for all the good He has done for me?" So we ask ourselves, "Where can I give myself as Jesus gave Himself for me?"
Often, when Catholics speak about giving, they put it in the context of Stewardship.
But what is Stewardship?
Simply put, it means living as stewards of God's creation, using the gifts that God has given us as He calls us to use them. In the First Letter of Peter, the Apostle says to Christians everywhere: "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Peter 4:10). Time and time again Jesus uses the image of the steward throughout the New Testament. Jesus is constantly encouraging us to be 'good and faithful stewards', to receive the gifts that God has given us, and to return them to God by giving to our families, parish, and community around us.
My current vocation -- Whether you are a mother or a father in a family, a student at school or a Catholic priest in a parish, your first place where God calls you to serve is in your vocation. For most of us, this means caring for our families and giving our time, talent, and treasure to our parents, our children, and our siblings.
My parish -- Jesus in his providence provided us with a specific Catholic community in which to worship Him at Mass, and also support each other in a community of love. Whether is serving during our celebration of the Mass through our Liturgical Ministries, helping teach children's formation classes, or helping with funeral dinners, there are many ways to give back!
My community -- We serve our community primarily through our own job, by doing our work well we give glory to God and praise Him. Additionally, there are many opportunities to serve our community, such as helping at the St. Joe's Food Pantry. volunteering to coach soccer, helping out at the Comea shelter, or simply picking up the piece of trash in the park.
As a parish we are also dedicated to give back the gifts God gives us. This is why as a parish we give 10% of everything we are given to various charities and those in need. It is also why, we work hard to create concrete opportunities for all of us to live a life of stewardship, both in the parish and outside the parish, learning to live as Jesus lived, giving generously our time, talents, financial support and love to those in need.
